Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant was founded in 2008 by Trinidadian entrepreneurs Alisa Plaza and Selwyn Mungo. Alisa, chef and mother of the family, desired to create an oasis built on the foundation of family. The environment she envisioned would reflect that of Home; the feeling of going home to mom's or grandma's house.
Chef Alisa has cultivated and maintained this sense of home and family around the business since its inception in 2008. The first Sunrise location was established on Kennedy St NW in the brightwood neighborhood of Washington, DC. Sunrise later relocated to the food court of Union Station DC and was well received by travelers from across the world.
At Sunrise, we strive to maintain a balance between healthy and home-cooking. Our food is made with fresh ingredients which are locally sourced and crafted with love.
